At the age of 15, she won her first Women’s National Championship, and has lost but a few since then. Gelly has taken part in four Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, London 2012 and Rio 2016. In 1999, she won the Race Board World Championship in Belgium, and was awarded a commission of officer status in the Hellenic Air Force.
Over the years she has travelled around the world to participate in international competitions, she has met and learnt a lot from fellow athletes who are now friends. Competitive windsurfing has taught her the importance of consistency, efficiency, clear and fast decision-making and successfully overcoming barriers.
In 2004 she got her Bachelor in Sports Sciences from Athens University and in 2005, her Master in Marketing at Brunel University in the United Kingdom. In 2008, having been certified as an NLP Practitioner and coach, she started working as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach. Training is her balance; she has the amazing opportunity to share with the people she works with her sports degree knowledge in conjunction with her experience of Olympic Level training and competing over the last 15 years. This allows her to challenge each client on a personal basis and achieve long –term results through wide-ranging workouts based on functional training and innovative fitness techniques.
Gelly is confident that in offering her years of experience to people in many walks of life, she impacts their lives in a positive and meaningful way suggesting a healthy and active way of living. Its important for her to show that “working out, really is working with in; it’s all about staying present and focusing on your breath”.
Gelly is currently preparing for her 5 th Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. Her mission statement is “motivating people to step outside their comfort zone, where their full potential can be reached”.
